If you're new to MUing you might be unfamiliar with a MUSH and wondering what this whole thing is about! Very simply, a MUSH is a text based medium through which people role-play in real time. They 'pose' to each other a series of short paragraphs (5-12 screen lines normally) depicting actions and speech in a form of cooperative storytelling that's often reminiscent of playing on a stage.
With that said, you're probably curious as to how to connect and create a character! Thankfully it's a painless process, just follow the steps down below.
Connect to the game! This can be done by accessing through raw telnet: telnet://norcon.genesismuds.com:4210 - However, if you're looking to play on the long term it's recommended you download a MUSHing client. A few suggestions are SimpleMU or MUSHclient
If this is successful you should see:
Welcome to NorConMUSH
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"connect <name> <password>" connects you to an existing character.
"create <name> <password>" creates a new character.
"WHO" tells you who is logged in to the game (case sensitive).
"QUIT" exits the game and saves your character.
"help" gives help on the commands, "help commands" for a list.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Create your character! Once you've successfully completed the above step, you'll be able to log in. Create any character name you want, but try to avoid endings that are '-th' as these are reserved for dragons in Pern gaming.
Type: create Leiflet redhead
Your character is now created! You'll need to do a few more things though.
3) Gender: Set your sex! Whoever your character is, they need to be a man or a woman. Type: @sex me=female or @sex me=male
4) Description: This will involve a little more work. Descs are usually between 12 to 20 lines in length and involve the following things: gender, age, height, weight, eyes, hair and clothing. If you want to break your desc into two parts you can using the %r carriage return, %t will create an indent. A desc should look something like what you see below:
%tLeif's age can be guessed at roughly forty or so turns of age. His formerly dark hair is shot with grey at the temples with a little bald spot emerging at the top of his head. His nose is thin and long but bulbous at the end, his lips thin and normally pressed into a disapproving line. Worry lines have etched themselves all along his forehead, the corners of his eyes and around his mouth. He's of average height and build, nothing outrageous or exciting about him in those regards. A stomach that was probably flat and hard in his youth has the signs of sagging and turning into a paunch relatively soon.%t%r His clothes are drab and lacking in any eye grabbing colors. Neutral brown pants with stains at the knees and a wrinkly white shirt are only outdone by the beyond-worn work boots whose sole has detached from the rest of the shoe and flaps at the front like an open mouth.
5) You're almost there! There's just a few more snippets of code that you'll need.
@lock me=me
@lock/use me=me
@lock/enter me=me
@set me=enter_ok
You should also set an alias for yourself. This makes it easier for others to page you. Instead of typing "p leiflet=What's up?" they could simple type "p leif=What's up?"
An alias is set this: @alias me=leif
6) Now that you have these basic things set you should look into further developing your character. After all, you gain what you sow. The more you put into a character, their personality, quirks, background and so forth the more you're likely to reap from their interactions.
