Vegas

The Vegas "Plot" is more an on-going theme of Ista Weyr. While trying to survive with a certain level of success during the interval, several characters have made the attempt to "beautify" Ista and make her more attractive to tourists all around Pern. Of course, not all of these business endeavors are what one would call noble ventures and they range from simple to more complex.

The Market

The market was originally put together by a traveling salesman named Skinner. Composed of simple canvas and wood stalls, it serves as a place for local traders to come and sell their wares. It's a buyer beware situation; there are some overpriced items as well as a number of good deals to draw customers. With the vendors and supplies always changing, you never know what you might find at the market stalls.

The Lucky Seven

The Lucky Seven was established by June and her six "sisters". The tavern is situated on the outskirts of Ista's jungles. It serves as a place to get a good drink, do some gambling and maybe meet a female companion for a certain price. There are a few rooms for rent upstairs, either by the day or by the hour. The weyr doesn't outright condone the business done there, but it doesn't complain when the monthly profits comes in either. Sailors, traders and other variety of people are the general fare of customers. It's not known for being a classy joint.

The Sandbar

The Sandbar is Ista's original bar. It serves the fruity drinks with umbrellas, the type of beverage you'd normally associate with the weyr. There's also a small kitchen where you can get some nice greasy food. It has a brighter more open atmosphere and it's location is right by the ocean. Of the two drinking establishments in the area, it has a far better reputation even if it's not nearly as exciting to spend a night at.

The Pavilion

The Pavilion is a recent addition to the weyr, a place where residents of the weyr can do their own barbecuing and relax. It's large enough to accommodate a significant amount of people should Ista want to host a party. It's one of the crown jewels of the weyr, covered from head to toe in local flora. At night, it's strung with colorful lanterns.

The Beach House

A full restaurant set down the beach from the Sandbar. It's run by brownrider P'draig and supplementally staffed by other members of the weyr when he has duties. It serves higher quality meals than you'd find in either the living cavern or the Sandbar. It's a more family friendly atmosphere and often attracts visitors who're looking for a good, clean meal.
